Meet: Baileywyck Antiques
Here in rural Virginia, the thrill of the hunt goes well beyond fox chasing. As a region rich in historical significance, much of our community remains enthralled by the artifacts that tell its story. With a multitude of fine collectibles, many have dedicated their lives to the curation of rare finds and vintage discoveries. Some call this antiquing. Others reference treasure hunting. Regardless of the vernacular, there’s no denying the excitement that stems from finding a 200-year-old item that ties your favorite room together perfectly.
When we feel the urge to add more heirloom treasures to our own collections, we turn to BAILEYWYCK ANTIQUES. Well known for being a highly curated hub for gorgeous period furniture and home furnishings, Baileywyck has an extensive array of antique lighting fixtures, oriental rugs, lavish textiles, rare artifacts, stunning accents, architectural statement pieces, tabletop displays, and distinctive gifts. From antique wrought-iron chandeliers to pewter coffee sets, there is always an item that catches our eye and leaves us breathless. In addition, the shop displays a gorgeous selection of equestrian-themed art, housed and staged in a 4,600-square-foot converted firehouse. It’s the largest collection in the entire Washington, D.C. area! There is beauty and amazement around every corner in this museum-esque antique shop.
Baileywyck Antiques, originally known as Baileywyck Shoppes, was founded by Lisa Vella in 2006. Named after Lisa’s beloved Golden Retriever, Bailey, Baileywyck is an artful play on the word, “bailiwick,” which refers to one’s particular sphere of interest or expertise. Certainly Lisa’s own avocation for antiquing developed into a fulfilling career and the widely celebrated emporium we know today. Situated in the heart of our beautiful Hunt Country, Baileywyck has quickly become one of the D.C. metro area’s premier antique destinations. In addition to displaying items local to our region, Lisa travels widely around the States and abroad in search of treasures to enhance the historic homes of our residents.
Lisa’s shop truly finds differentiation in the details, as she takes great care in the acquisition and presentation of every item on display. From the largest piece of vintage furniture to the smallest relic, the entire collection was personally selected and tastefully staged as an expression of the owner’s own passion. In fact, each item in her vast assemblage of period pieces dates back further than 100 years. Feeling as much like a breathing museum as a well-curated gallery, the team behind Baileywyck takes pride in offering uniquely and beautiful furnishings that have stood the test of time. We are grateful that Baileywyck exists to make these treasures accessible to our Hunt Country residents and visitors.
Whether you have been scouting out an item that will bring that final touch of personality to you fourier or meaning to go on a weekend antiquing adventure, Baileywyck is one of our favorite Hunt Country destinations to find the thrill and charm we crave. In addition to their weekend hours, they offer private appointments by request. You can get a taste for their collection in their gallery display online but our favorite way to antique is to see and feel the items for ourselves. Regardless of how you shop, we’re sure you’ll fall in love with their variety of precious artifacts, fixtures, and furnishings.
Be sure to tell them Scout sent you!
